Running

Number of years running: maybe 7

What prompted you to begin running: I used to run a little to keep my dogs in shape. Then I ran because I always felt good during and afterwards, and the runs just kept getting a little longer and more important. Now I believe I’m addicted to running because the day isn’t as good if I don’t get a run in.

When did you join New Basin Blues: about 5 years ago

Favorite race distance: 10 miles

Greatest personal running achievement: I just qualified for Boston

Memorable running moments: my first LA Marathon- with practically no training: until 2 weeks prior, the longest I’d ever run was a 10K. Also-a few years ago at Malibu Creek-it was just turning dusk and I was climbing the little single track out to Mulholland at the end and trying to catch up with the group-and there was a deer about 5 feet from me-he raised his head but didn’t move as I ran past - pretty awesome for Los Angeles.

Greatest running regret: not realizing the possibilities of running several decades sooner

Favorite running shoes: New Balance 763 and for track Reebok premier competition

Number of marathons finished: 9 (?)

Best times (time/location):

      Marathon:  3:59:03 California

      International Marathon   12/7/2003

      Half-mar: maybe 1:58 a long time   ago

      10 mile: 1:33:36 Pop Marty

      15K: 1:20:45 Law Day 15K

      10K:  ?

      5K: 23:15 St Monica’s

Mile: 7:50 last year at track-  Haven’t timed a mile lately

Typical marathon training mileage: about 55 miles/week

Favorite marathon and why: California International Marathon- I achieved my goal there and loved the course. It’s a slight downhill slope much of the way including the last miles with aid stations almost every mile during the latter miles of the race, and encouraging spectators all along the course. They also served tomato soup after the race.

Do you run ultras: not yet

If no, do you want to run ultras: perhaps

What’s next on your running agenda: I’m a little between goals right now. I never thought I would ever qualify for Boston and it just happened, so I need to find a new goal.

Your advice to other runners:  Keep the fun in your running… eat healthy
