In 2002, the New Basin Blues Running Club established the X/C Fund to meet a need to provide running shoes for deserving high school cross country runners. The program has grown to provide adult running mentorship and new running shoes to local high school cross country students at the beginning of their season each year. Working with local coaches at the school level, the club provides a full spectrum event where the student athletes are treated to a beautiful mountain trail run with the New Basin Blues Club. After breakfast, the students are taken to a local running store where they are custom fitted into a pair of new XC training shoes. Their coaches tell us that some of these students have been running in hand-me-down shoes that are two sizes too small for them. You may be aware that the sport of running does not tend to receive the greatest amount of funding from our school dollars, so our club does its part to show youth that “running is cool” and can benefit them even into their adult years!
We always enjoy seeing our Sponsors interact with these remarkable young runners. It would be our pleasure to have your attendance at our XC Kids Day each September.
Tax deductible contributions may be mailed to: New Basin Blues, P.O. Box 280502, Northridge, CA 91328. Please make checks out to “New Basin Blues Running Club” and reference “X-C Fund” on your check.
The New Basin Blues is a 501c3 charitable organization under Road Runners Club of America.
